Earlier this year, the World Money Fair Technical Forum celebrated its 20th anniversary, with 15 papers presented at the event in total. This article is the third and final summary of the remaining five papers which have yet to be reviewed in previous issues of Coin & Mint News™.

Novel PVD Carbon Coatings with Magnetron Sputtering Technology for Cu-Ni Coinage Stamp Dies

Teer Coatings, based in the UK, is a well-known specialist in Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) coatings and has 40 coating systems installed in minting applications around the world. 

After briefly describing PVD magnetron sputtering coating technology, in which the magnetron varies according to the coating, Dr Hailin Sun proceeded to describe the company’s patented Closed Field Unbalanced Magnetron Sputter Ion Plating system. The system is able to produce a variety of coatings according to the application required.
