Czech Mint Unveils THINCUSE™ Technology

The Czech Mint has unveiled a new ultra-lightweight gold bullion coin utilising its proprietary THINCUSE™ technology. Struck from 999.9 fine gold and weighing just 1/200 of a troy ounce (0.156 grams), the coin achieves a diameter of 16mm despite a thickness of only 40 micrometres.

THINCUSE has been in development since 2021, with the name combining ‘thin’ and ‘incuse’ – the process enabling the creation of coins with a sunken design, a rare technique that enhances both durability and visual depth.

Despite its minimal weight, the coin features a three-dimensional depiction of the Czech lion. Unlike some ultra-light products on the market, the piece is a fully struck gold coin rather than a plated or composite alternative.

The launch forms part of a broader strategy to respond to rising gold prices by lowering the entry point for investors. The price per coin has been set so that it would not exceed CZK 1,000 (approximately €40) and exempt from VAT, intended to enable buyers to build gold holdings incrementally without significant upfront investment.
