Celebrating Italy’s Most Famous Motorcycle Manufacturer
Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS, or the Italian Mint) is releasing a series of three coins to celebrate the country’s most famous motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati. All of the silver coins have a nominal value of €5 with each commemorating a different era from the company’s history.
With the company’s recent triumphs in the Superbike, MotoGP, and Supersport World Championships, the series pays tribute to its history with each coin featuring a different Ducati motorcycle.
The obverse design is the same for all of the coins, depicting a view of the historic Ducati factory in Borgo Panigale, Bologna, from 1935, with the Ducati logo appearing on the top right of the coin.
The first of the three coins depicts Ducati’s first motorcycle, Cucciolo, on the reverse, which was the first to be completely manufactured in Borgo Pangiale in 1949. The second coin features the Ducati 916 motorcycle, and the third the Ducati Panigale motorcycle, which is the latest model of sports motorcycles manufactured by the company.
