Celebrating Franco-American Friendship

Engravers from the US Mint and the Monnaie de Paris have collaborated to design a coin celebrating the long-standing Franco-American relationship, beginning a new three-year collection intended to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

The collaboration on this coin involved the work of former chief engraver of the US Mint, John Mercanti, and current engraver general of the Monnaie de Paris, Joaquin Jimenez. Each engraver reinterpreted the symbols of his counterpart’s country.

The obverse, designed by Joaquin Jimenez, depicts Lady Liberty holding the stars and stripes flag behind her whilst an eagle flies overhead. The reverse, designed by John Mercanti, depicts the Sower in front of the French flag, facing right towards the traditional acronym of ‘RF’.
