Royal Canadian Mint Scoops IACA Award

The Currency Conference gala dinner on 16 May hosted the presentation of the latest International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) 2023 Excellence in Currency Awards. 

The award category of ‘Best New Coin or Coin Series’ will be of particular interest to Coin & Mint News™ readers, with the finalists as follows: 

  • Bank of Ghana and The Royal Mint – GH₵1 circulating coin
  • Central Bank of Liberia and The Royal Mint – 5 Liberian dollar coin 
  • Royal Canadian Mint – $2 circulation coin in memory of Queen Elizabeth II 
  • The Royal Mint – the 50p HM King Charles III coin.

The winner was the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) for the $2 coin issued in December 2022 in memory of the late Queen, which is distinguished by its black outer ring reminiscent of a mourning armband.
