MDC 2023 Programme Announced

Hosted by the Royal Canadian Mint and scheduled to be held this October in Ottawa, Canada, the programme for the 2023 Mint Directors Conference has been announced.

With the theme of ‘Minting for the Future’, the programme focuses on innovation and ESG with specific presentations on topics such as sustainability, social inclusion, marketing, circulation coinage and numismatics.

The programme contains a variety of different sessions, including two keynote speakers, plenary presentations and breakout sessions. Also included are several social events – an opening reception and Canadian Experience evening, plus a gala dinner and awards ceremony at the Canadian Museum of History.

Details of the tour to the Mint’s Ottawa manufacturing facility have also been released, with delegates invited for a behind‑the‑scenes look at Canadian coin production that spans the full spectrum of the coin production cycle.

WMF Technical Forum Opens Call for Papers

Scheduled to be held on 1 February 2024, the World Money Fair’s Technical Forum has announced its Call for Papers for the 20th edition of the Forum.

The organisers have confirmed that the Forum will be a live event in Berlin, with papers to be presented on stage at the event and in English. They intend to admit up to 12 papers which will be split into several theme blocks with Q&A opportunities following each session, as in previous years.

The Call for Papers reiterated that the organisers ‘will accept only innovations and new papers which have not been presented before’. Last year’s event was separated into three theme blocks, with presentations on technologies such as smart feeding systems, die production, digital solutions, PVD coatings, laser engraving, software, surface finishing, sustainability and packaging (see CMN February-April 2023 for summaries of each of the presentations).

Applicants will be informed whether their paper has been included in the agenda by mid-October, with the deadline for submitting paper abstracts and speaker details being 29 September 2023.

Those interested in presenting a paper have been asked to contact Iris Kress ([email protected]).
