Coin Issuance Down, Returns Up in Estonia

The latest figures from Eesti Pank on cash issuance detailed a fall in the number of coins issued in the first quarter of 2025. Approximately 1.5 million coins with a total value of €1.6 million were issued, with the most common being the €2 coin – which comprised half of the total number of coins issued into circulation. Although the one and two cents coins dominated issuing figures in previous years, the introduction of cash rounding in January means that the lowest denominations are no longer issued into circulation.

The number of coins issued during this time has fallen by around half, compared to the previous quarter, but the central bank noted that the first quarter of the year typically sees the smallest volumes of cash issued.
