China Celebrates the Year of the Dragon
The People’s Bank of China (PBC) has issued a series of commemorative coins to celebrate 2024’s Lunar Year of the Long (Chinese Dragon), which began on 10 February. Comprised of one gold coin, one silver coin, and one bi-metallic copper alloy coin, the set is all legal tender.
The gold and silver coins feature a combination of auspicious traditional Chinese designs on the front. Both coins feature the Chinese character ‘Fu’ (meaning fortune and luck in English) on the reverse, with the character held by a cartoon dragon on the gold coin and depicted within a lantern on the silver coin. The silver edition also features a deer in the centre of the design and a butterfly in each of the four corners of the coin.
