US Coin Production Falls Dramatically
According to production figures from the US Mint as of the end of October, just under 4.62 billion coins have been manufactured this year. Annual mintage for 2024 is estimated to reach 5.5 billion coins, if the current pace of production continues through to the end of the year – a 56.5% decline compared to coins manufactured during the same period in 2023.
These figures are despite an increase in coin production for October, the fourth straight month in which this has happened, although the monthly totals have yet to surpass the 1 billion coins mark, which it last did in August 2023. The Mint produced 826.6 million coins in October, a 70% increase over the previous month and a near 65% increase compared to the same period last year.
