New Supplier for Danish Coins

Danmarks Nationalbank has announced the signing of a new agreement with Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre – Real Casa de La Moneda (FNMT-RCM, or the Spanish Mint) regarding production of Danish coins for the next four years.

The Mint of Finland – which is currently winding down its operations and is due to close shortly – previously held this responsibility, first minting Danish coins in 2017 following the closure of the Royal Danish Mint in 2016. This included Danish circulation coinage, in addition to proof and BU (brilliant uncirculated) products.

As the contract expired last year, Danmarks Nationalbank initiated an EU tender to identify a new supplier of coins. The Spanish Mint was chosen because their bid was the most favourable overall, said the central bank. Evaluation criteria included price, quality, and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
