UK Sovereign Returns to Gold

The Royal Mint (TRM) has launched its 2026 Sovereign Collection, offering more advanced security features and a return to the classic yellow gold colouring. For the first time, the bullion Sovereign has been developed with three new advanced security features, joining the Britannia in becoming one of the world’s most visually secure coins.

Microtext – ‘HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE’ (‘shame on him who thinks evil of it’, the motto of the Order of the Garter) – adorns the reverse in a subtle nod to the original modern Sovereign of 1817. A latent image on the obverse reveals a Tudor rose and Tudor crown, symbolising both the Tudor roots of The Sovereign under Henry VII and the modern era under King Charles III. A sophisticated half-tone pattern also enhances the design and guards against counterfeiting.
