Coiniverse Becomes Independent Startup

Coiniverse, the coin collecting app set up by the Mint of Finland, has been spun off from the Mint into an independent startup. As an independent startup, the company aims to increase its user base across the globe and create a trusted collector community where mints are readily accessible.

According to Coiniverse, the move will allow it to expand its reach to new markets, serve collectors with new innovations, and help mints succeed in their collector-related efforts. Current member mints of the app include Monnaie de Paris, the South African Mint, the Italian Mint (IPZS), Swissmint, Münze Deutschland, the Mint of Finland, Spanish Mint, Lithuanian Mint, and Vera Valor.

Former Head of Digital Development at the Mint of Finland, Mikko Sievänen, has become the new CEO.

‘We aim to reach 1 million users on Coiniverse by 2024, launch new collector services constantly, and provide a marketplace for access to both new and old coins. Our goal is to be the most trusted community for coin collectors worldwide. We plan to expand to all major collector markets globally and double our member mints by 2024. Our efforts center on producing the best collector app on the planet and making collecting more accessible and fun also for new generations’, he said.

Coiniverse was launched in 2021, following work by the Mint of Finland to identify the impact of digitalisation on the future of cash. Digital coin collecting solutions were identified as an opportunity, and the Mint developed over 50 different digital concepts for coin collecting and gifting before choosing Coiniverse to take forward.

Earlier this year, it hit the milestone of 100,000 users and the spin-off marks the next chapter towards its goal of 1 million.
